The First Cone Table We Ever Made

In the summer of 2023, we made a table that changed everything for us—a custom 60" round dining table on a solid maple cone base. It was our very first cone table, and at the time, we weren’t even sure we could pull it off.
Before that summer, we had flat-out turned down every request for cone-shaped bases. Not because we didn’t want to—just because we didn’t think we were capable yet. We didn’t have the tools. We didn’t have the space. And frankly, we didn’t have the confidence.
At the time, we were working out of a metal warehouse with no air conditioning. The Texas weather didn’t hold back—blazing hot in the summer and freezing cold in the winter. We were a small team with big ambitions and just enough equipment to keep things moving. Still, when a family newly relocated to Flower Mound reached out and asked to stop by the shop, we said yes.
They arrived with a clear vision for their new home, and specifically, their dining space. The wife, it turned out, was an interior designer—and she knew exactly what she wanted: a clean, minimal round table with a bold cone base that would anchor the room.
We were hesitant, but something about that meeting made us say yes.
What came next was a lot of trial and error, sweat, and long hours in the shop. David got to work figuring out how to taper a base using what we already knew—how to build cylinders. Slowly, we worked through the angles, the cuts, the assembly. No CNC tricks. No fancy jigs. Just basic tools, math, patience, and a drive to figure it out.
The result? A 60" round maple table with a beautiful two-inch groove routed into the top for added detail. It was elegant, sculptural, and completely custom. We were proud of it. When we posted photos of the finished piece, the response was immediate—and unexpected.
That table turned into one of our most requested designs.
Since then, we’ve built dozens of cone tables in all sizes, woods, and finishes. We've refined our process, improved the efficiency, and even upgraded our tools to meet demand. But that first cone—the one we weren’t sure we could make—still means the most.
It reminded us that growth happens outside your comfort zone. It also reminded us that good design often comes from collaboration—especially when clients bring their own creativity into the mix.
If you’ve ever wondered how our cone journey started, this is it. And if you’re curious how far we’ve come since then, follow along—we’ve got more to share.
